IOC Commissions Meet

Meetings of a dozen plus IOC Commissions are set for July 16 and 17 in Lausanne. All held behind closed doors, the advisory panels for the most part meet at least once a year around this time.

Executive Board Decisions

The 15-member IOC Executive Board will meet July 18-20 with a full agenda. Setting the sports program for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing will be one of the key points. The EB will also set the schedule for the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. The schedule will take into account the prodigious heat that blankets Tokyo during the July-August time frame for the Olympics and Paralympics.

The EB is expected to review the process that Paris will follow in selecting optional sports for the 2024 Games.

On July 20, closing day of the meeting, nominations for new IOC members will be considered. IOC President Thomas Bach holds a closing press conference Friday afternoon.

Esport Summit

The much anticipated Esport Summit hosted by the IOC and GAISF, the Global Association of International Sports Federations, takes place July 21 at the Olympic Museum. More than 150 participants have been invited for the day-long event.

FINA Gala

Aquatics federation FINA dedicates its new headquarters in Lausanne July 19. That night the federation will celebrate the 110th anniversary of its founding with a gala at the Royal Savoy Hotel.

Bienvenidos a Barranquilla

The 23rd edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games open July 19 in Barranquilla, Colombia. More than 5,500 athletes from 36 countries are expected. The program includes 37 sports with19 of them counting for qualification for the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima. The games run until Aug. 1.

Asian Games Torch Relay

The flame for the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta is on its way to the host city after being lit July 15 in New Delhi. The Indian capital, site of the first Asian Games, is where the flame is permanently kept.

An Indonesian Air Force jet will land in Jakarta July 17 to begin the relay across the country. The relay will travel through 54 cities in 18 provinces before arriving at the presidential palace in Jakarta on August 17, the day prior to the open of the games.
