Monday Memo -- 2014 SportAccord Convention Kicks Off

(ATR) The 2014 SportAccord Convention is underway at the Susesi Resort in Belek/Antalya, Turkey.

SportAccord Convention

The 2014 SportAccord Convention began Sunday and concludes Friday, April 11 at the Susesi Resort in Belek.

Wednesday morning,ATReditor-in-chief Ed Hula will host a Newsmaker Breakfast during which he will address changes to the summer sport program and updates on Rio.

Ugur Erdener, president of the Turkish National Olympic Committee; Craig Reedie, president of the World Anti-Doping Agency; and Chris Eaton, director of sport integrity at the International Centre for Sport Security will be in attendance.

ATRis one of only two original media partners present since the first SportAccord Convention in Madrid in 2003. A special edition magazine will be produced for the event and will be posted onATR'swebsite.

IOC News

The IOC Executive Board (EB) will meet in Antalya, Turkey on Wednesday and Thursday.The meeting coincides with the 2014SportAccord Convention.

During the two days, the EB will hear reports on the IOC’s latest activities and receive updates on preparations for the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 2018 Winter Games, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games.

The IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport begins in Monaco on Thursday.

The triennial conference gathers over 120 leaders in their respective fields who possess an interestin clinical aspects of sports and exercise medicine. The conference will conclude on Saturday.

Pistorius Trial

The trial for Oscar Pistorius resumes today at the Pretoria High Court.

Judge Thokozile Masipa postponed proceedings due to the illness of one of the legal assistants who has been sitting at her side throughout the trial.

The Olympian is expected to testify on his own behalf.Pistorius is charged with the premeditated murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day of 2013.

On March 3, Pistorius pleaded not guilty to one charge of murder and a firearms charge associated with Steenkamp's killing.If convicted, Pistorius faces 25 years in jail.

Sports Integrity Day

Helsinki, Finland is hosting a seminar on sports integrity issues titled "Sports Integrity Day" on Thursday.

The seminar will address issues such as manipulation in international sports events.

Director of IOC Ethics Commission Paquerette Girard-Zappelliis expected to speak at the event.
