(ATR) The first online popular vote to determine the official logo of an Olympics and Paralympics ended in a landslide.
"Futura" defeated "Dado" and is the official logo of the Milano Cortina 2026. "Futura" was the choice of 75 percent of the 871,566 valid votes from Italy and 168 other countries. About 10 percent of the votes came from outside Italy.
The winner in the contest was announced during an online press conference on Tuesday broadcast from the Milano Cortina 2026 organizing committee headquarters in Milan and the Italian National Olympic Committee headquarters in Rome.
The online voting was launched on March 6 by 2026 Ambassadors Federica Pellegrini and Alberto Tomba at the Sanremo Music Festival, the most popular Italian song contest and awards ceremony.
In a statement, Milano Cortina 2026 said "involving everyone in the final selection was envisaged because an Olympic logo is much more than a mere graphic concept: it is a path of identity towards 2026 – Italy’s first major international event after the pandemic".
"Futura" is described as a "touch on the snow" and it must be imagined in motion with a finger drawing it in the snow and revealing what stands behind. The line of the logo is modern and, with its different shades of white and light grey, it recalls the colors of the snow and of the winter mountain peaks. The message is sustainability.
"Futura" and "Dado" had been the final two graphic concepts from an original list of 30.
