On 8 November 2017 the leaders of all the international federations (IFs) for sport will gather for the 11th IF Forum in the Olympic Capital, Lausanne, Switzerland to discuss the ‘‘International Federation Impact - Leading the way towards a Sustainable Agenda’ the focus for this year’s meeting. Hosted by SportAccord Convention, the IF Forum will take place over three days (8-10 November) at the Hotel Royal Savoy, where key decision-makers for sport will discuss what steps and actions can be taken for the longer term.
Part of a wider global initiative led by the United Nations where the IOC is a permanent observer, sustainability is one of the three pillars of Olympic Agenda 2020, and the Olympic Charter also sets out the IOC’s role: "… to encourage and support a responsible concern for environmental issues, to promote sustainable development in sport and to require that the Olympic Games are held accordingly …"
Patrick Baumann, President of GAISF (Global Association of International Sports Federations) and SportAccord Convention will deliver an Opening Address at the IF Forum and said, "Because sport touches the lives of millions around the world we can all help lead the way in promoting the sustainability agenda. But it is important not just to talk about it but to take action and demonstrate our commitment by building sustainability into our events and activities. The IF Forum will not just inform and inspire delegates but equip them with ideas and practical initiatives to do this."
The IF Forum program will follow the IOC sustainability strategy with sessions and workshops focused on infrastructure and natural sites, sourcing and resource management, climate, mobility, and workforce.
Partners supporting this year’s IF Forum will include JLT Sport who have specialized in risk and insurance forinternational federations since 1980, and Nielsen Sports who have supported federations for over thirty years with a range of solutions from increasing sponsorship investment to helping grow and engage fan bases. The Host City Partners for the IF Forum are Lausanne and the Canton de Vaud who are home to around 50 international sport federations, the IOC, AISTS, and numerous organisations involved in the business of sport.
