YAO MING AND FIVE MORE CHINESE SPORTS STARS BACK BEIJING 2022

On February 10, six legendary Chinese athletes officially became Ambassadors of the Beijing2022 Winter Olympic Bid: Yao Ming, basketball star and NBA legend; Shen Xue and ZhaoHongbo, the illustrious pair skaters; Li Nina, multiple aerial skiing champion; Zhang Hong,Sochi 2014 gold medalist in long-track speed skating, and Hou Bin, Paralympic high jumpchampion.

Recognized both at home and internationally as the face of Chinese Olympic successes,these six athletes were actively involved in the development of Beijing 2022’s plans for theGames. And with their new roles as Beijing 2022 Ambassadors, they will remain involved inmaking China’s dream to host the Winter Olympics come true.

Heavy snowfalls kicked off the Year of the Sheep celebrations in Zhangjiakou, much to thedelight of local skiers and snowboarders.

February was a busy month for the Bid Committee as Beijing 2022 hosted international mediafor a visit in Zhangjiakou and Yanqing on 14-15 February, just a few days before the NewYear. During the visit, Zhang Chunsheng – Executive Deputy Director of the Beijing 2022Operations Centre in Zhangjiakou – presented the resort's facilities to foreign journalists.

This month also saw Chinese athletes brought home a few medals after successfullycompeting at the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada, Spain and the 2015 Four ContinentsFigure Skating Championships in Seoul, South Korea. Chen Guang and Han Yutong both won gold medals at the 2015 Winter Universiade, respectively in the men's 5,000m short track relay and the ladies' 3,000m short track relay.

In the meantime, the Chinese pair skaters - Peng Cheng and Zhang Hao - competed in Seoul and took the second place in the Figure Skating Pairs Short Program.

As a vibrant and popular tourist destination, Beijing is constantly evolving to offer a pleasanttravelling experience to the growing number of international tourists visiting the city each year.In fact, the city recently announced that it was working with Zaha Hadid Architects to build theworld's largest airport passenger terminal: the Beijing New Airport Terminal 1 Building. Aproject which should be completed by 2019 and therefore, if the city was to win to host the2022 Games, the terminal would be fully operational to welcome international visitors in 2022.

To kick off the Chinese New Year celebrations, Beijing 2022 held an event in Beverly Hills, LA,in early February 2015. This event complete with artistic performances and Chinese culture --also featured a photo exhibition, retracing China’s historical relationship with the Olympics.

With the passion for winter sports rapidly growing in China, one of Beijing 2022’s eightsponsors – Snow Beer – hosted the first ever skiing festival in Shandong Province, just southof Beijing, on 11 February.

THE BEIJING 2022 BID COMMITTEE PREPARES TO HOST THE IOCEVALUATION COMMISSION

The IOC Evaluation Commission to Beijing will take place from 24 to 28 March 2015 and willprovide an opportunity for the Bid to bring its vision to life and make the IOC EvaluationCommission members to see the suggested venues for the Games and to experience thevibrant atmosphere of the Chinese capital first-hand.
