LA 2024 Delegation Arrives in Olympic Capital, Lausanne

The LA 2024 delegation, led by Mayor of LA Eric Garcetti, has arrived in Lausanne, Switzerland aiming to reinforce Los Angeles’ credentials as an ideal Olympic city and partner for the Olympic Movement with its presentation to the entire IOC Membership on Tuesday.

LA 2024's visit to the Olympic Capital and presentation to the IOC caps the bid's #FollowTheSun to Olympic Agenda 2020 campaign: 20 announcements in 20 days to show how LA 2024 will contribute to the IOC’s strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement, Olympic Agenda 2020. LA 2024’s presentation will demonstrate the bid's alignment with Olympic Agenda 2020’s 1st recommendation to offer an Olympic project that best matches LA's sports, economic, social and environmental long-term planning needs.

Alongside Mayor Garcetti is the LA 2024 senior leadership team of Chairman Casey Wasserman, CEO Gene Sykes and Vice Chairs Janet Evans and Candace Cable. Also in Lausanne are the United States’ three IOC Members, Anita De Frantz, Angela Ruggiero and Larry Probst, along with United States Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun. They will be joined by Olympic track and field legends and members of the LA 2024 Athletes’ Advisory Commission Allyson Felix and Michael Johnson.

On Tuesday morning, LA 2024 will make a comprehensive 45-minute presentation to the IOC Members and the presidents of the international summer sports federations, followed by a 30-minute Q&A. The presentation will address LA 2024’s overall vision for a new Games for a new era that helps the Olympic and Paralympic Movements engage the world’s youth and secure the long-term financial sustainability of the Olympic Movement. LA 2024 will look to emphasize its potential to redefine Olympic sustainability by using Olympic Agenda 2020 as a guiding principle, with no permanent venues to build and a low-risk, no-surprises budget.

Members of the LA 2024 team have been making the most of their time in the Olympic capital, Lausanne. CEO Gene Sykes visited the 2017 World Rowing Cup in Lucerne on Thursday. Four-time Olympic champions Janet Evans and Michael Johnson today visited the Olympic Museum, where the Olympic torch that Evans passed to Muhammad Ali and Johnson's golden spikes from Atlanta 1996 are on display.
