LA 2024 Athletes’ Advisory Commission member Michael Phelps today stars in a special Father’s Day edition of its "Going for Gold" social media video series.
The most decorated Olympian of all time, Phelps says in the video: "For me, growing up in the sport I was always like, ‘Man, it would be really cool to go to the Olympics some day,’ never thinking I’d be sitting here and already gone to four... I think being able to have the chance to show [my son] my realm, and what I did, and my job, and my career, I wouldn’t even know what to compare it to for me growing up as a kid. It’s wearing the stars and stripes and being able to represent your country and being able to stand on the podium listening to your national anthem play - nothing better than that."
The "Going for Gold" series features weekly videos of US athletes bidding for glory at the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, reflects LA 2024’s ongoing commitment to keeping athletes at the heart of its bid and to leveraging technology to connect with youth culture.
LA 2024 Vice Chair and Director of Athlete Relations Janet Evans said: "As a swimmer, I’d like to thank Michael for his unwavering commitment to the sport and to the Olympic Movement, and for inspiring so many to follow their dreams. We are proud to have Michael on the LA 2024 Athletes’ Advisory Commission, a group of Olympians and Paralympians who have been and will continue to be invaluable as we build the best, personalized Games experience for all athletes should LA be awarded the honor of hosting the 2024 Games. We look forward to cheering Michael on as he goes for gold in Rio."
