(ATR) Kazakhstan Prime Minister Karim Massimov will underline the government’s support for Almaty 2022 when he makes a presentation to IOC inspectors on Monday.

ATR is told that Massimov will present his administration’s guarantees to the IOC delegation during the morning session.

The bid’s vice chairman Vladimir Smirnov suggested that the PM's contribution was vital to Almaty’s quest to land the Games.

Kazakhstan’s eight-time Winter Olympic medalist told ATR that Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev was also strongly supportive of the project. The IOC delegation will seek assurances that this is the case tomorrow.

Nazarbayev in December promised that the Almaty 2022 Olympics would not involve huge investment in new facilities and infrastructure. This is reflected in the compact nature of the bid offering. Of the 14 competition venues, only three will be newly built for the Games with the others renovated.

On Sunday, day two of the bid inspection, the IOC panel led by Russian Alexander Zhukov heard from Almaty 2022 officials about some of the 14 themes of the city’s bid book in closed-door briefings.

Site visits for IOC officials are planned to proposed venues for ice hockey, the Olympic stadium, bobsleigh, skeleton and luge, ski jump facility in the heart of the city and another for Nordic Combined.

The media is touring the same venues at different times. There will be no contact between reporters and the IOC delegation on Sunday.

A press conference with Almaty bid leaders and Kazakh athletes is scheduled at 19.30 local time.

Beijing is also vying for the 2022 Winter Games. The IOC team conduct a March 24 to 28 inspection of the Chinese bid.

The IOC's evaluation report surfaces in June to coincide with the Candidate Cities Briefing in Lausanne. The 2022 Olympic host city will be chosen at the IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur on July 31.
