While the world of Karate lives expectantly the decisive months ahead of the final decision of the International Olympic Committee to include the sport in the Olympic program of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the World Karate Federation President, Antonio Espinos reaffirmed the strong and firm commitment of the organisation to allow Karatekas from around the world to have access to the Olympic qualification process.
In the thrilling road towards Tokyo 2020, the WKF has vowed to provide athletes worldwide with ways to opt to participate in the Olympic Games. This action aims to include every Karateka in the world.
"In recent years, we have made a great effort to bring together the whole family of Karate, with excellent results. However, we are opening our doors to all Karatekas, and we are doing everything in our power to implement a comprehensive plan that offers multiple pathways towards the qualification to the Olympics," said WKF President Antonio Espinos.
The WKF's initiative will allow Karate athletes who are currently not integrated into the WKF to participate in the way to the Olympics through the system of Olympic qualification to be set for this purpose by the WKF.
The whole family of Karate is looking forward to the confirmation of Karate as an Olympic sport for Tokyo 2020. This decision will be announced during the IOC Session to be held in Rio de Janeiro from August 2-4.
