(ATR) The International Olympic Committee is undergoing a change of scenery as demolition begins on the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland on Monday.
The Chateau de Vidy will be replaced by the Olympic Unity House, a building that seeks to house 600 staff members and is projected to cost $156 million. Lausanne city officials signed a lease with the IOC through 2115.
The new complex will feature an agora welcome area, a sports café where visitors can watch events, five large meeting rooms, offices and a sports center.
The IOC will open its new headquarters in 2020 near Lake Geneva.
Lillehammer 2016 Winter YOG to Feature VR
The Lillehammer 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games begin Friday in Lillehammer, Norway.
The second edition of the Winter YOG will be the first international sporting event to offer content in virtual reality. IOC TOP sponsor Samsung says it will live stream the opening ceremony on Friday entirely in virtual reality for viewers across the globe.
Samsung will establish three VR hubs will be established in various locations around Lillehammer that will deliver daily VR highlights of speed skating, snowboarding, figure skating, ski jumping and other events after they are completed.
The YOG will feature 70 medal events across 15 disciplines as well as 150 free cultural events through Sjoggfest, a festival named after the Lillehammer 2016 mascot Sjogg.
The Winter YOG will come to a close on Feb. 21
Paris 2024 Logo Launch
The Paris 2024 bid committee will unveil its logo on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
The announcement will be made at the historic Arc-de-Triomphe in Paris at the very fitting time of 20:24 hours Central European Time.
The logo will be displayed across the monument that honors those who fought in the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars.
