IOC PRESIDENT IN PARIS

PRESIDENT BACH WAS IN PARIS ON FRIDAY TO VISIT THE FRENCH NATIONAL OLYMPIC AND SPORTS COMMITTEE (CNOSF) AND THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES PARIS 2024.

Arriving at the headquarters of the CNOSF, President Bach was greeted by CNOSF President Denis Masseglia. There, the IOC President met the Presidents of the Olympic Sports Federations in France and held a question and answer session.

He congratulated them on their recent plan for the development of sport in France, saying it would help to "increase the relevance and contribution of sport in society".

He added: "The IOC is by the side of the French Olympic Sports Federations as you prepare for the Olympic Games. You have a unique opportunity because the home team is vital for the success of the Olympic Games, and only the sports federations can help to deliver this."

President Bach was accompanied by the IOC Members in France: Guy Drut, Jean-Christophe Rolland, who is also the President of the World Rowing Federation, and Tony Estanguet, who is also the President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee.

President Bach then went on to the headquarters of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, where he toured the offices and met the staff.

At a meeting he told them: "What you have done in such a short time is remarkable. With inclusivity and participation at the heart of your mission you have the opportunity to guide our Olympic Movement into a new era."

Later, in a question and answer session with staff, President Bach said: "This year we are celebrating the 125th anniversary of the birth of the modern Olympic Movement at the Sorbonne, here in Paris. Here you have the chance to guide us into the next 125 years and beyond into a 'new era', with the first Olympic Games organised following Olympic Agenda 2020. You can help us to maintain and renew the relevance of the Olympic Games and the values of the Olympic Movement."

After the visit President Bach was at the Élysée Palace for a meeting with the Head of State. Along with the IOC Members in France and the President of the CNOSF, he held talks with President Macron.

Later, the two leaders had a private meeting where they continued their discussions. They touched on the role of sport in France and the progress of the organisation of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

In the evening, President Bach attended the opening ceremony of the Women's World Cup and the first match between France and South Korea at the Parc des Princes.
