In the final presentation of the Stockholm-Are 2026 bid to the IOC, Lindberg, a leading IOC member issued an Olympic rarity: a direct challenge to the membership.
An indication of how startling were her words came in the IOC media workroom as murmur exploded following her remarks.
Playing off her career in the IOC including chair of the 2018 Winter Olympic Evaluation and Coordination commissions and a further 10 Evaluation or Coordination commissions Lindberg appealed to the IOC: "you and I have trusted each other for many many years.
"I believe the Olympic Movement needs three things--a partner that can deliver on time, on budget and with no drama or surprises.
Trust was a continual theme of Stockholm’s presentation with Prime Minister Stefan Lofven pledging "our nation is trustworthy and so is our guarantees".
