The Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today proposed for approval by the IOC Session six provisionally recognised International Federations (IFs) for full IOC recognition, in accordance with the Olympic Charter.

The IFs concerned are:

The International Cheerleading Union (ICU) – provisionally recognised in 2016

The International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) – provisionally recognised in 2016

The International Sambo Federation (FIAS) – provisionally recognised in 2018

The International Federation Icestocksport (IFI) – provisionally recognised in 2018

The World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) – provisionally recognised in 2018

World Lacrosse (WL) – provisionally recognised in 2018

After the provisional recognition period, these IFs demonstrated that they fulfilled all the requested criteria. Their statutes, practice and activities conform with the Olympic Charter, and they have adopted and implemented the World Anti-Doping Code and the Olympic Movement Code on the Prevention of Manipulation of Competitions.

Furthermore, they all maintain their independence and autonomy in the governance of their sport and meet the criteria outlined in the recognition procedure for summer and winter sports.

Specifically, the procedure requires having a minimum of 50 affiliated national federations for summer IFs and 25 affiliated national federations for winter IFs, from at least three continents, that exercise a specific, tangible and ongoing sports activity in the one or several sports (or disciplines) the IF administers.

Finally, there were no objections from the member federations of any of the IF associations.

The IOC Session, which will meet in Tokyo ahead of the Olympic Games, is set to decide upon the EB’s recommendation.
