(ATR) The International Olympic Committee is leaving PyeongChang, South Korea with an understanding that preparations for the upcoming Winter Olympics are on pace.

The IOC held an Executive Board meeting following the PyeongChang 2018 Coordination Commission visit that ended on March 15. The IOC EB heard a presentation from organizers of the Games on the first day of the EB March 16.

The IOC, led by president Thomas Bach, also discussed the upcoming host city selection for the 2024 Summer Olympics on the second and final day of the EB March 17. Following the meeting, it seems the IOC is inching closer to awarding both the 2024 and 2028 Olympics at the IOC Session this September in Lima, Peru.

Los Angeles and Paris are the only bidders remaining in the race for the 2024 Games. IOC vice president John Coates intimated that if one of the cities were to be awarded the Games for 2028 it would only come after the winner was selected for 2024.

"You’d have to be very careful that you are not changing the conditions upon which the cities bid," Coates told ATR in a recent interview. "I would think legally it mustn’t be allowed to influence the vote in any way. I think that would be wrong."

The IOC EB also approved Fukushima as a venue for baseball and softball at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Friday.

The next IOC EB is scheduled for July 9-10 in Lausanne.
