(ATR) New FIFA president Gianni Infantino intends to start the bidding process for the 2026 World Cup sooner rather than later.

He told reporters on his first day in office on Monday, Feb. 29 that the contest - which was delayed due to the FIFA corruption scandal that erupted nine months ago - should begin before the FIFA Congress meets in Mexico City in May.

Infantino also showed no interest in revisiting the bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, telling reporters that it’s FIFA’s job to organize the best World Cup in history in Russia in 2018 and in 2022 in Qatar.

Budapest is also one of four cities in the running to host the 2024 Summer Olympics along with Los Angeles, Paris and Rome. The IOC decision on that is scheduled for September 2017.
