(ATR) The first fully virtual International Federation (IF) Forum will feature a keynote address from World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

His remarks will delve into the theme of the conference, which is "How Sport and Society Can Emerge Stronger from a Global Crisis".

IOC President Thomas Bach will open the 14th edition of the IF Forum on Thursday.

There will also be an opening address by Raffaele Chiulli, President of SportAccord and the GAISF, and a member keynote address by Professor Fabio Pigozzi, President of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS).

All of the IF Forum sessions will be streamed online for participants, with SportAccord having announced a month ago that the two-day event would be shortened to one day and be fully virtual due to ongoing challenges in relation to international travel and in-person gatherings caused by the pandemic.

The forum, by invitation only, is expected to include 200 leaders from more than 125 International Sports Federations.

Topics that will be debated will include crisis management, scenario planning, how to limit risk from a legal and financial perspective, law-related commercial considerations for IFs and how to stay connected and reassure athletes, fans and stakeholders in times of adversity.

"In these unusual and challenging times it is more important than ever for International Sport Federations to come together, and we have an outstanding line-up of influential speakers who will provide essential insights during this first fully virtual IF Forum," Chiulli said in a statement.

"I am delighted with the SportAccord team’s efforts in preparing for this year’s event in this exciting format that will connect our community from across the globe."

UCI Congress Meets Thursday

The 189th International Cycling Union (UCI) Congress will be held virtually on Thursday.

Agenda items include the registration of the Palestine National Federation, the hiring of former professional racer Michael Rogers as the head of cycling esports, and a presentation by the International Testing Agency (ITA).

The ITA officially takes over international cycling’s anti-doping operations from the Cycling Anti-Doping Foundation (CADF) on January 1, 2021.

The Congress is scheduled to run from 1200 to 1500 Central European Time and can be followed live on the UCI YouTube Channel.

Two New Members for World Curling

The World Curling Federation now has 66 members.

The Federation Board approved the Bolivian Curling Federation and the Curling Federation of Turkmenistan into conditional membership.

"Despite the challenges we have faced this year, I am very pleased to say that the curling family continues to grow," World Curling Federation President, Kate Caithness said in a statement.

"I'm delighted to welcome Bolivia and Turkmenistan into the World Curling Federation. I look forward to seeing their plans to develop curling in their countries realized in the coming years."

The Bolivian Curling Federation will be a part of the Americas zone, while the Curling Federation of Turkmenistan will join the Pacific-Asia zone.

World Taekwondo’s New Home

World Taekwondo will have a new headquarters by 2025.

The federation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Goyang City, South Korea on Monday.

The city will provide World Taekwondo with a new state-of the-art 10-story building that will house a taekwondo museum and a training ground in addition to office space. Goyang City is just northwest of Seoul, where the federation’s current headquarters is located.

World Taekwondo's new home will be about 40 minutes from Incheon International Airport.

"Our new headquarters will significantly increase our operational capacity and allow us to better serve our global taekwondo family. Moreover, it will provide an accessible and convenient location for us to host guests, training camps and more," World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue said in a statement.
