(ATR) This intriguing couple are linked in 2015 by their work to help the IOC select a host for the 2022 Winter Games.

Zhukov, IOC member and Russian Olympic Committee president, will chair the Evaluation Commission for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

With only two cities in the running -- Almaty and Beijing -- the task may not be as demanding as campaigns with more candidates. But both bids come with large question marks about their ability to stage the Winter Games, and Zhukov and colleagues will be expected to clearly discern the strengths and weaknesses of the two cities.

Barrett, the IOC director of bid city relations, will administer the process for the 2022 race.

With the adoption of Olympic Agenda reforms affecting how bids are handled by the IOC, Barrett will be at the forefront of implementing the changes. Even more noticeable may be the changes as they affect the 2024 campaign for the Summer Olympics, which starts in 2015.

2014 rankings: Zhukov, unranked, Barrett, 21.
