(ATR)The French National Olympic Committee (CNOSF) is picking up the pace on plans for the 2016 Olympics and a campaign for the 2024 Summer Games.
On Tuesday, the CNOSF retired its 17-year-old logo and unveiled a new emblem depicting a return to the "coq sportif" symbol.
The more modern version of the original "coq sportif" icon is made up of curves and lines, symbolizing "movement and pride," according to Franc Jeux.
The reveal of the new CNOSF logo comes a day after the Paris City Council's backing of a 2024 Olympic bid.
The council's vote in favor of a Paris bid was considered the last obstacle on the city's road to officially announcing its 2024 candidacy.
The decision precedes a meeting between IOC president Thomas Bach and France President Francois Hollande. The meeting, set for Thursday, will take place at IOC headquarters in Lausanne.
On June 3,members of the committee for a potential Paris 2024 bid will also meet with the IOC to review proposed plans for a Paris Summer Olympics.
The CNOSF has also announced plans to promote a Paris bid during the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Brazilian equestrian society, according to a statement released by the CNOSF on April 10, will host Club France during the Rio Games.
The headquarters of the Brazilian equestrian society is positioned right around the corner from the rowing venue for the 2016 Olympics.
Much like during the 2012 London Olympics, Club France will be open to fans. This time around, CNOSF president Denis Masseglia says that part of the mission of Club France will be to promote a Paris 2024 bid.
Jean Michel Brun, CNOSF secretary general, echoed Masseglia's sentiments and said the projected cost of the operation is approximately $1.7 million.
Paris was unsuccessful in its bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics. The last Games hosted in France were the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics.
Boston, Hamburg and Rome have announced their candidacies for 2024. Baku, Budapest and India may bid as well.
The IOC will open the application process for 2024 on September 15. A host will be chosen at the 2017 IOC Session in Lima, Peru.
