Malheureux athlètes russes. A moins de 150 jours de l’ouverture des Jeux de Tokyo 2020, ils ne savent toujours pas s’ils seront autorisés à participer à l’événement olympique. Et ils pourraient bien l’ignorer jusqu’au tout dernier moment.

Le Tribunal arbitral du sport (TAS) a dévoilé via un communiqué, publié tard dans la soirée de jeudi 27 février, les détails et le timing de la procédure d’arbitrage dans le différend entre l’AMA et l’agence russe antidopage (RUSADA). Pour rappel, l’instance mondiale antidopage recommande une suspension du sport russe pour une période de 4 ans. Elle concerne la participation de ses athlètes aux grands-rendez-vous mondiaux, l’interdiction d’organiser des événements internationaux sur le sol russe et, par extension, celle se porter candidat à l’accueil de compétitions planétaires.

Dans sa communication, le TAS explique que l’audition ne sera pas publique. L’AMA en avait fait la demande. Mais, précise le tribunal basé en Suisse, elle n’a pas pu être acceptée en « l’absence d’un accord entre les différentes parties. » Pas vraiment décisif.
