(ATR) The head of analysis at Infostrada Sports tells Around the Rings four countries in particular are on track to shatter medal count records at the 2016 Olympics.

Speaking with ATR on Friday, Simon Gleave explained what goes into Infostrada Sports' Rio 2016 Virtual Medal Table and how its projections might benefit NOCs in the lead up to an Olympics.

The latest table predicts theNetherlands will break its record of 25 medals won at the 2000 Sydney Olympics with 31 medals in Rio.

Host country Brazil is expected to win 19 medals at Rio 2016. At the 2012 London Olympics, Brazil won 17 medals overall.

Kenya set its record for most medals won with 14 at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Gleave tells ATR the country is nowon track to win 17 medals at the Games this year.

Azerbaijan is projected to win 16 medals at the Rio Olympics. Gleave says Azerbaijan could become the first country to improve its medal count at five Games in a row. The most medals won by the country at an Olympics was 10 at the 2012 London Games.

Infostrada Sports provides data, media, analytic and event services to sports federations, NOCs, event organizers, rights agencies, broadcasters, media publishers, brands and app developers.

Right now, the top four countries on the Rio 2016 Virtual Medal Table are the U.S., China, Russia, and Germany.
