(ATR) The world’s largest business to business sports convention called SportAccord gets underway this weekend in Lausanne, Switzerland.
SportAccord is an annual gathering of the leaders of international sport federations, event suppliers, media and marketing companies as well as members of the International Olympic Committee and the cities bidding to host the next Olympics.
The event begins April 17 at the SwissTech Convention Center and features six days of workshops and networking events allowing participants plenty of opportunities to learn about the best practices in the industry.
Sportcal and GlobalSportsJobs are just two of the SportAccord partners organizing workshops during the event. Sportcal will discuss how host cities and owners can understand more about the impact of sport while GlobalSportsJobs will talk about talent management in today's digital age.
The SportAccord General Assembly will take place on Tuesday, April 19 with the primary item on the agenda being the election of the organization's next president. FIBA chief Patrick Baumann and Underwater Aquatics Federation president Anna Arzhanova are the two candidates vying to win the election.

Sports Technology Awards Begin Tonight
The annual Sports Technology Awards get underway tonight in London.
The awards ceremony recognizes achievement and innovation in sportstechnology advancements. Categories of awards include best wearabletechnology in sport, best use of technology by a sponsor, best sportsapp and best technology partnership. There are 17 awards in total.
The awards were created in October 2013 by British public relations firmENS with the first ceremony taking place in April 2014. The awards arenow in its third cycle and have the support of the English SportsCouncil.
World Rugby to Attend Concussion Symposium
The World Rugby federation will travel to Berlin in October to attend the fifth International Consensus Conference on Concussion in Sport.
Leaders of the federation will attend the conference in order to learn best practices to better protect the 7.7 million rugby players worldwide.
World Rugby will collaborate with other international sports organizations such as the IOC, FIFA, Ice Hockey and Equestrian federations to finance and host the conference. The conference seeks to bring together independent experts and sports leaders to review and standardize on-field concussion management in sports.
"Concussion education, prevention, management and research is World Rugby's number one player welfare priority and a priority for all sports," said World Rugby medical chief Martin Raftery. "Guided by independent experts and evidence-based research, we are committed to delivering the best-possible level of support to players at all level of the sport, both for men and women."
The conference will be held from Oct. 27-28 in Berlin, Germany. Registration for the event will open in June.
