Davydova Wins 2014 IOC Women And Sport Trophy Award

Anastasia Davydova, Secretary General of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has been awarded an IOC Women and Sport Award for her role in promoting gender equality in sport at the IOC’s 127th Extraordinary Session in Monaco.

ROC Secretary General honoured for vital contribution to women in sport

Anastasia Davydova, Secretary General of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has been awarded an IOC Women and Sport Award for her role in promoting gender equality in sport at the IOC’s 127th Extraordinary Session in Monaco.

Five-time Olympic champion, Anastasia Davydova, who is the ROC’s first female Secretary General, was presented with the award in Monaco after dedicating over 23 years to synchronised swimming. The award comes at the end of another spectacular year for Davydova after being named FINA’s "Best Athlete of the Decade" and being the first to bear the torch for the Sochi 2014 Torch Relay in Red Square.

Alexander Zhukov, President of the ROC, said:

"In my mind, Mrs Davydova's outstanding and consistent achievements over the years have been an inspiration for many young female athletes. Her tireless work will contribute to the progression of female participation in sport - both in Russia and around the world."

Award-winner Anastasia Davydova later commented:

"I feel so privileged to have been selected as the European winner of this prestigious award. 2014 has been a truly wonderful year for me and it is such an honour to end the year in this way. Many thanks to President Zhukov and all at the Russian Olympic Committee for their never-ending support. I hope to continue my work in ensuring greater gender equality in sport for many years to come."

The IOC Women and Sport Trophy Awards are presented annually to six individuals in recognition of outstanding contributions to the advancement of women in sport.
