CITYEvents

The theme for this year’s CITYEvents conference will be "Preparing to bid, and bidding to win."

The conference will sport speakers from national, regional and city public sectors as well as international sports federations, event organizers and other key stakeholders.

Speakers will also represent a wide variety of successful – and unsuccessful – bids, sharing the lessons learned from each.

The cities of London, Kazan and Stockholm are a few of the speakers slated for the three-day conference.

Meanwhile, voting is open for the inaugural Sports Cities Index, presented by Around the Rings and TSE Consulting.

The comprehensive biannual ranking is built around a group of 50 cities selected through criteria such as staging recent and upcoming Olympics or other major multi-sport Games, hosting professional sports teams as well as organizing major championships or world-class events such as tennis Grand Slams and Formula 1 races.

Though the initial batch is already set, it’s up to the public to help sort them out 1 through 50 based on their perceptions of the cities as having hosted major events, having quality facilities and being healthy and active places to live.

An online survey open through Nov. 11 asks respondents four brief questions on those themes and then gives them the opportunity to suggest other cities for inclusion in future editions.

A group of 100 "TSE Survey Experts" drawn from international federations, National Olympic Committees, sports media and other influencers will also respond to the survey.

Answers from these experts will be combined with those from the general public to produce the final Sports Cities Index, to be released at CITYEvents, scheduled for Nov. 14 to 16 in Lausanne.

ISEM Conference

Speakers from Innsbruck 2012, London 2012, Glasgow 2014, Sochi 2014 and Qatar 2022 will highlight the program at the 2012 International Sports Event Management Conference.

These speakers will give case studies to the events they managed, or are planning, during the three-day conference.

New for 2012 is the "Workshop and Technology Day" that starts off the conference, in addition to the aforementioned case studies.

Around the Rings readers will receive a discount to the conference. Local Organizing Committees that subscribe to ATR will receive complimentary passes while the rest of our subscribers will receive 10 percent off the cost of the conference when they register using the code AX1004ATR10.

The ISEM Conference runs from Nov. 6 to 8 in London.

Topics that will be discussed include: "innovating approaches for sustainable education," and "the impact of the Youth Olympic Games and Olympic Games Cultural Olympiad," as well as drawing from young people who are at the heart of the Olympic Movement.

The conference will take place at the Amsterdam Maritime Museum from Nov. 25 to 27.

ASPIRE4SPORT

ASPIRE4SPORT has added three new speakers to its program.

John Barnes, former Liverpool F.C. and England footballer, and Dr. Mario Zorzoli, Chief Doctor of the International Cycling Union, are now scheduled to speak at the event.

John Barns will speak on the "Star Chat" panel, while Dr. Zorzoli will be speaking during the Aspire Med section of the conference.

The conference will welcome more than 3,000 delegates, including 500 sports industry leaders and 250 accredited media professionals, at Doha’s Aspire Dome focusing on "Connecting Sport and Business in the Middle East" from Nov. 12 to 15.

Former legends from Real Madrid and Barcelona FC will participate in an "El Classico" exhibition match on Nov. 13.
