(ATR) A Brazilian themed exhibition is open at the Olympic Museum.
From Feb. 10 to Sept. 25 the museum will showcase Brazilian culture to celebrate the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro free of charge. Entitled "Destination Rio," it is the first exhibition from the next Olympic city to open in Lausanne.
Brazilian artists, culture, and Olympic organization will be on display for visitors of the museum. The date of the exhibition was timed to coincide with the annual Carnaval celebrations in Brazil. TOM Café, the museum’s restaurant, will serve a Brazilian menu and host weekly concerts as part of the showcase.
Contemporary artists Felipe Barbosa, Heleno Bernardi, Marcos Cardoso, Maria Nepomuceno, Zemog, Alex Felmming, and Adriana Varejao will have works showcased in the exhibition.
To mark the opening of the exhibition, Brazilian samba school Mangueira sent members to perform in Lausanne. Mangueira was the winner of the 2016 Rio Carnaval parade, and the school will march again down the Sambodrome on Feb. 13 to celebrate their victory in the champion’s parade.
Costas Gets Record Assignment
Bob Costas will host his eleventh straight Olympic Games as part of NBC’s primetime coverage.
The venerable broadcaster is the longest serving primetime anchor for the Olympics, and has covered a total of 12 Olympic Games for NBC. He has been at the helm of NBC’s primetime coverage at every Olympic Games since 1992 in Albertville.
"Simply put there is no one better than Bob to tell the stories of the athletes, and take our viewers inside the world’s biggest sports event," Jim Bell, Executive producer of NBC Olympics, said in a statement.
Test Events Resume
Diving, taekwondo, and wheelchair rugby will round out the test events in February.
After taking a break for Carnaval, the test event program continues on Feb. 19 in the Olympic Park. Events will continue regularly through May before the final preparations for the Games begin.
Diving will be held on Feb. 19-24 at the Maria Lenk Aquatics center, which will host diving, synchronized swimming and water polo during the Games. Wheelchair rugby, on Feb. 24-26, and Taekwondo, on Feb. 20-21, will be held in Carioca Arena one, which will house wheelchair rugby during the Games. Taekwondo will be held in Carioca Arena three.
