(ATR) A Brazilian court has set Nov. 29 as the date to begin the trial of Patrick Hickey on charges of ticket touting during the Rio 2016 Olympics
Hickey, self-suspended as an IOC member, was also president of the Olympic Council of Ireland at the time of his arrest in the final week of the Games. Hickey maintains he did nothing wrong and has consistently claimed he will be vindicated at trial.
With the date set, the question still to be answered is whether Hickey would need to travel to Brazil for the trial. The possibility exists for him to testify via a video link, but conditions set by the court must first be met.
Hickey will be on trial along with an employee of the ticketing firm contracted with the OCI. Witnesses from Ireland may also be called to testify.
Hickey posted a $440,000 bond in December that allowed him to return to Ireland. If he fails to appear at trial, the bond could be forfeited.
