(ATR) Boston 2024, the group behind the city's bid for the Games, is making efforts to clarify plans for a potential Boston Olympics.

Boston City Council president Bill Linehan and Boston 2024 are leading a hearing on Olympic Agenda 2020 on May 18.

The hearing, taking place at the Boston City Hall, is one of four slated to take place over the next two months on the city’s proposed plans for the Olympics.

Boston 2024 has seen a steady increase in support for the Olympics since recording 36 percent support in a poll released Mar. 20.

The office of Boston Mayor Marty Walsh is holding a Citizens Advisory Group meeting this week where the city's bid for the 2024 Olympic Games could come up.

The meeting will take place on May 19 at the Cleveland Community Center in Dorchester, Massachusetts.

Boston 2024 also announced a statewide referendum would be held on Nov. 16, 2016.

Boston will potentially be in competition with Hamburg, Paris and Rome to host the 2024 Olympics. Budapest is expected to join the race in the coming months.

Bach Receives Award in Rome

The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) will present IOC president Thomas Bach with an award in Rome on May 22.

IAAF honor Lamine Diack

During a meeting of the International Association of Athletics Federations in Dakar this week, the organization will honor president Lamine Diack.

The 82-year-old, who was born in the Senegalese capital of Dakar, is retiring after serving 16 years as president of the IAAF.

The 212 member federations of the IAAF will gather to honor Diack on May 23.

Diack became acting president after the death of the fourth IAAF president, Primo Nebiolo, in 1999. He was officially elected president at the 2001 IAAF Congress.

Fencing Grand Prix in Rio

TheInternational Fencing Federation (FIE) is staging the last Grand Prix of the 2014-2015 season in Rio de Janeiro on May 22.

Some 212 fencers are expected to compete at the Rio Olympics in 2016, Aug. 6-14.

Qualification for the 2016 Games will be primarily based on the FIE official rankings in April of next year.

World Taekwondo Championships

The World Taekwondo Federation concludes the 2015 World Taekwondo Championships in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk on May 18.

The championships, taking place every two years, were last held in Puebla, Mexico.

As of last week, the WTF says a total of 875 athletes from 136 countries had submitted their entry forms for the championships.

The Traktor Arena will host competition for the 22nd edition of the World Taekwondo Championships.

Advancing to a round of 16 or higher at the championships is part of the qualification system for athletes hoping to compete in taekwondo at the 2016 Olympics.
