(ATR) Beijing 2022 says it will "spare no effort" to secure the Winter Olympics, as officials head to Lausanne for the bid book handover.
Beijing 2022 confirmed on Jan. 5 that a delegation would submit its Winter Games bid dossier to IOC officials in Lausanne on Tuesday.
The delegation is headed by Liu Peng, chair of the Chinese Olympic Committee, and bid chief Wang Anshun, who is the city’s mayor.
"A team of officials, scholars and experts, with rich experience in running the successful Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games, spent the last several months working on the best and most detailed response to each of the IOC’s requirements regarding the Winter Olympic Games," the Chinese bid said in a statement today.
"The Beijing 2022 bid committee looks forward to this important milestone on the road to China’s dream to host the Winter Olympic Games and is fully confident that the candidature file will meet the IOC’s demands."
The bid posted a statement on Facebook paying tribute to Zhenliang He, an IOC honorary member, who died aged 85. Beijing 2022 credited He as one of the chief architects behind Beijing’s bidding and hosting the 2008 Olympics, saying he had played an "irreplaceable role in the promotion and development of the Olympics in China".
"Winning the bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics was one of Mr. He's dreams: in his honor, we will spare no effort, taking real and effective actions to accomplish our mission of a successful 2022 bid," the statement said.
The IOC deadline for bid book submissions is Wednesday.
Almaty is the only other bidder for the 2022 Games. Around the Rings contacted the Kazakhstan bid but was unable to confirm when the delegation would be handing over its bid dossier to the IOC.
