(ATR) IOC president Thomas Bach will tour the proposed Olympic and Media Villages in the Los Angeles 2024 Olympic bid on Monday as part of his two-day tour of the city.
Bach arrived in L.A. on Jan. 31 and attended a Lakers NBA basketball game at Staples Center, one of the primary venues of the bid.
On Monday, Bach will meet with U.S. IOC members Anita DeFrantz and Angela Ruggiero, Mayor Eric Garcetti, USOC leaders Larry Probst and Scott Blackmun, L.A. City Council president Herb Wesson, LA 2024 bid leaders Casey Wasserman and Gene Sykes as well as Olympians Janet Evans and Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson.
The USOC and LA 2024 delegation will travel with Bach and IOC officials to the Olympic and Media Villages housed at the University of California-Los Angeles and the University of Southern California campuses respectively.
Bach will travel to San Francisco on Tuesday to meet with technology executives, possibly opening a pathway for a new IOC TOP sponsor.
500 Days Until 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup
To commemorate the 500-day mark until the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, FIFA will unveil the logo of the tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
The emblem will be released at a special ceremony in Russia’s historic Red Square in Moscow. The ceremony will honor guests such as 2001 Confederations Cup and 1998 FIFA World Cup winner Christian Karembeu as well as Russian artists and celebrities.
The 2017 tournament marks the first time the event is being held in Russia. The 16-match tournament will be held from June 17-July 2 at venues in Kazan, Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Sochi.
Last Call for Rio 2016 NOC Press Submissions
The deadline for National Olympic Committees to submit press credentials for the Rio 2016 Olympics is Friday, Feb. 5.
In November, Rio 2016 distributed Press by Name accreditation forms to NOCs that had returned their Press by Numbers forms. The completed Press by Name forms are due back to Rio 2016 organizers by Friday.
The Rio 2016 Accreditation Department will distribute non-valid Olympic Identity and Accreditation Cards (OIAC) to NOCs to forward to their press outlets. The OIAC acts as a visa into Brazil.
The Rio 2016 Olympics take place from Aug. 5-21.
