ATRadio: Becky Edwards Touts Olympism in Action Forum

(ATR) More than two dozen topics are on the table, when supporters and critics alike come to Buenos Aires to discuss the future of the Olympic Games.

The Olympism in Action Forum will be held on October 5-6 in Buenos Aires, ahead of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games. Organized by the IOC, the forum will bring together over 1,600 participants with speakers ranging from former UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, President of Argentina Mauricio Macri, Director of Global Initiatives at Human Rights Watch, Minky Worden, and founder of No Boston Olympics Chris Dempsey.

IOC Strategic Communications Director Becky Edwards is organizing the forum and spoke to Around the Rings from Buenos Aires about the efforts and what the IOC looks to accomplish with the meetings.

"It's going to be an action packed 48 hours, and you can feel the percolating excitement," Edwards said. "The members initially conceived of the [forum] around the same time Olympic Agenda 2020 was adopted and the idea was at a midway point to have a more public facing check in.

"We were lucky to have the YOG planned in Buenos Aires and so it was envisioned that would be able to do the same public facing conversation about the themes that have been brought to life through Olympic Agenda 2020 with the idea that the IOC itself would do more listening and listening to the contribution of thought leaders from all other segments of society who have opinions, and experience, and inspirational ideas about what can be done to ensure the future of sport and the impact of sport on society."
