Some 3,666 athletes from all 50 European countries competed at the European Games in Minsk, Belarus, June 21-30.

Eight of the 15 sports in Minsk served as qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Host Belarus finished second in the medals table only finishing behind Russia.

European Olympic Committee leaders said that the second edition of Europe’s Continental Games "exceeded all expectations".

"Together with our Belarusian and Russian friends, we have delivered an excellent multi-sport competition only second to the Olympic Games," said the EOC president Janez Kocijančič.

On the sidelines of competition, the European Olympic Committees held its Extraordinary General Assembly, where Krakow and the Malopolska region of Poland was chosen as the host of the third European Games for 2023.
