(ATR) The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Atos announced on Thursday that their long-standing TOP sponsorship will be extended through 2024.
Negotiations have been in the works for a while and this announcement is the first of such for the IOC since the COVID-19 outbreak forced the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
"In these unprecedented times, the support and confidence of our Worldwide Partners is now more important than ever. We are delighted to be able to keep counting on Atos to support the Olympic Movement and to help bring the Olympic values to billions of people across the globe." IOC president Thomas Bach said.
In a sign of confidence, the new extension could be worth up to $200 million per Games, with upcoming editions being hosted in the major world markets of Tokyo, Beijing, and Paris. Atos' global headquarters is in Paris.
With the announcement, Atos becomes the 12th Worldwide Olympic Partner to sign through 2024. The IOC will continue to be able to support sport and athletes worldwide through the year with the money it generates with partners.
"The long-term support of our global partners means the Olympic Movement is able to enjoy financial stability and operational support, which helps to overcome challenges, including the current unprecedented period." Jiri Kejval, IOC Marketing Commission Chair, said.
Atos has been an important IT partner for the Olympic Movement since 1989 and has provided cutting-edge technology ever since.
"We will be pursuing our commitment to the empowerment of the Olympic Games through leading technology and innovation – fully connecting, securing, and digitally enabling the Games to all stakeholders." Atos CEO Elie Gerard said in a press release on Thursday.
Atos has also extended its worldwide Paralympic partnership through 2024 and will provide IT service for the next three Paralympics.
The agreement also includes marketing rights for the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Paralympic Games through the IOC-IPC long-term collaboration agreement, as well as for the Youth Olympic Games.
