Following the recent announcement concerning the FINA Diving World Cup 2021 taking place at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre between 1-6 May, and the Marathon Swimming Olympic Qualification events taking place in Setubal, Portugal between 19-20 June, an Artistic Swimming operational test will be now be organised in Tokyo in July. This follows FINA’s decision, in agreement with the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Japanese authorities and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), to move the Artistic Swimming Olympic Qualification event to June 2021, to a location to be defined, outside Japan.

Despite the sincere efforts from the Japanese authorities to keep the Artistic Swimming Olympic Qualification event in Japan, challenges related to the international calendar and the necessary adaptation of the venue to the Olympic Games’ operations in mid-May contributed to this difficult decision.

FINA is greatly appreciative of the collaborative approach to these events received from all related Japanese stakeholders as well as from the IOC and looks forward to providing any necessary support for the successful staging of the operational test for Artistic Swimming scheduled for July 2021.
