ANOC President Prioritizes Goals

Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah has sent a letter to all 205 member NOCs of the Association of National Olympic Committees asking for their input to help reshape the vision and objectives of ANOC.

The move followed his first Executive Council gathering as chairman since his election as ANOC president in Moscow last month. Monday's meeting was held at IOC headquarters in Lausanne.

A statement on the Olympic Council of Asia website says the council was sending letters inviting feedback from its members "on the future of ANOC and priorities they feel ANOC should address".

Members unanimously approved the election of Raja Randhir Singh as vice president of ANOC from Asia and Yu Zaiqing as member of the council from Asia.

The meeting concluded with resolutions to form a working group for the redrafting of the constitution and another one to work on the modernization of ANOC.

The next ANOC Executive Council meeting is scheduled for London on the sidelines of the Olympics.

No Nostalgia for Rogge

As he heads into his final Olympics as IOC president, Jacques Rogge says he will not be nostalgic about his tenure.

"I never look back," he told Reuters.

"I am not a nostalgic man. I worked as hard as I could and it was always a privilege. But there will be no nostalgia."

Diack on Diamond League

IAAF president Lamine Diack suggest his sport’s showcase Samsung Diamond League could be here to stay.

"I think that the Diamond League has proved itself now after three years and it opens a special season this year," he told Thursday’s official press conference in Doha, where the 2012 Diamond League kicks off Friday.

"During the two past years of meetings there has been good TV coverage, and the sponsors, Samsung have backed it for a third year in a row. Figures for attendances have also been very important. I wish that we will have another excellent year in the Diamond League as we look forward to July, when we hope we will show that we have the No.1 Olympic sport."

Rudisha on Doha 2020

Kenyan 800m world record holder David Rudisha says he doesn't see "any problem" with Doha possibly hosting the 2020 Olympics.

Speaking to the Qatar-based Gulf Times, Rudisha compared the Games-time weather in Doha to that of Daegu, host of the 2011 world championships in athletics.

"The weather (in Doha) is similar to that of Daegu. But when it comes to the political decision of choosing the host, it will depend on many things.

"I have been coming here for many years and the weather in Kenya is also similar. All the facilities are good here and I don’t see any problem."
