Alpine World Ski Championships Underway in Colorado -- ATR Podcast

(ATR) The Alpine World Ski Championships have returned to the United States for the first time since 1999.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) is staging the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek, Colorado. Competition ends on Feb. 15.

FIS says nearly 600 athletes representing 68 nations are participating in the event.In total, there will be 11 medal events with 10 taking place in Beaver Creek and the nations team event being staged in Vail.

IOC president Thomas Bach and United States Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun were among several top sport officials who attended the first day of competition.
