(ATR) The International Sports Press Federation (AIPS) held its first annual world e-conference in honor of National Sports Journalists Day.
Founded in 1924, the organization also celebrated its 96th anniversary.
More than 850 sports journalists worldwide joined via Zoom to discuss Covid-19 and racism with AIPS President Gianni Merlo and other guests.
Journalists from more than 140 countries discussed Covid-19’s impact on sports journalism along with the future of sporting events.
IOC President Thomas Bach delivered the opening address in support of the media during the pandemic, saying "....While living in uncertainty it is clear that with this situation it is having profound implications for everyone in the Olympic community as well as for you sports journalists. The world of journalism and the world of sport have undergone many changes since AIPS was founded 96 years ago but few has been far reaching as the historic decision taken only a few months ago to postpone the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 to next year."
Bach also added, "We need these Olympic values more than ever, if we are to come together to overcome this crisis."
