(ATR) Celebrations in Budapest, Los Angeles, and Paris are planned with the 2024 bids joining in on the revelry.
In Paris, a light show honoring the city and the 2024 bid will take place at the iconic Champs Élysées. The last part of the show will be broadcasted on the Arc de Triomphe memorial.
A press release from the city of Paris said the show will be "for the delight of Parisians and lovers of the [French] capital." Festivities will start at 10pm, with the Paris 2024 section happening just before midnight.
Los Angeles 2024 may not have anything planned on New Year’s eve, but the bid team will utilize its partnership with this year's Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on Jan. 2.
The parade takes place ahead of the traditional, prestigious New Year’s Day College Football game, but a scheduling quirk has the 2017 edition pushed back one day. Hometown University of Southern California will take on Pennsylvania State in the 2017 Rose Bowl.
Three Olympians with ties to Los Angeles’ bid are grand marshals for the 128th Rose Bowl Parade. Southern California natives Greg Louganis, Allyson Felix and Janet Evans will share the honors during the event.
Louganis, a four-time gold medalist, is considered one of the greatest divers in history. Felix, who has won six golds and three silvers in track and field, is still competing and recently took home two gold medals at the Rio Games. Both are members of the LA 2024 Athletes’ Commission.
Evans, LA 2024 vice chair and director of athlete relations, won three gold medals and broke seven world records during her swimming career.
Budapest features many New Year’s celebrations along the Danube River, where many of the potential 2024 Olympic venues will be held. It is unclear if the 2024 bid will host an official New Year’s celebration, as Budapest 2024 did not return requests for clarification.
Still, party goers can find plenty of celebrations in the city’s bars or hotels along the Danube. Celebrations even extend to river boats on the Danube offering set prices for a night of dining and drinking before the traditional midnight fireworks.
After 2017 is rung in by all three cities, the bid teams will have to get straight back to work for a busy final nine months of bidding. The final candidature file is due to the IOC in February, and each city will welcome the 2024 evaluation commission in April and May. In June each bid city, IOC members and summer International Federations will participate in a debrief session from the evaluation commission.
The IOC will decide the 2024 host city at its 2017 session in Lima, Peru.
