Jacques Rogge took a short visit to Bogota, sandwiched between the IOC meeting in Guatemala City and the Pan Am Games in Rio de Janeiro.(ATR) Jacques Rogge finishes a busy two days in Colombia by joining president Alvaro Uribe in a sendoff for the country's Pan Am Games delegation and with a ceremony to lay the cornerstone at the country's new Olympic museum.

Colombian president Alvaro Uribe, IOC president Jacques Rogge and new IOC member Andres Botero wished farewell to Colombia's 400-person delegation with a flag and a ceremony in Bogota.

"My words are brief but from the heart: to thank Colombia for its support of Olympism and of world sport; congratulations to Andres Botero for his election as a new member of the IOC and good luck to the Colombian athletes who are going to compete in the Pan American Games," said Rogge.

President Uribe expects much from the team.

"The government Rogge welcomed Andres Botero into the IOC just two days before the visit to Bogota. (Orlando Sierra/AFP/Getty Images) is committed to a series of events, national and international, so that Colombia can be brilliant in this Olympic cycle. For that reason we want to say that they are going to the Pan Ams better trained, better equipped," said Uribe at the July 9 ceremony.

Rogge also had a half-hour meeting with Uribe at the presidential residence in Bogota.

After leaving the president, Rogge and Botero departed for the construction site of the Colombia Olympic Museum.

The 1500 square meter museum is one of Botero's initiatives as president of the Colombian Olympic Committee. It is taking shape adjacent to the COC office in Bogota. The museum will showcase 70 years of Colombian sport through images, movies, books and other exhibits.

Colombian sport leaders see Rogge's visit as an accolade for their work to improve sport in the country and in the struggle against doping, Colombian media report.

Earlier in the day, Rogge visited several sports sites in the city. At the Institute of Sport, he received an honor from director Everth Bustamante. Rogge also briefly visited the Centro de Alto Rendimiento, a high performance training center.
