On International Women's Day, World Para Ice Hockey is opening the bid application process to find a host city for the 2022 Women’s World Challenge.

The tournament, which will be open to national and continental teams, will take place in either September or October of 2022 and will be a reoccurring event during the 2022-2026 quadrennial cycle.

The event will be a steppingstone on the road to the first-ever Women’s World Championships in the future, with the goal of expanding female participation in Para ice hockey worldwide.

Interested organisers are invited to complete the bid interest form on the Bid Applications page. https://www.paralympic.org/ice-hockey/events/bids

The addition of the Women’s World Challenge will also help attract new athletes to the sport and establish a long-term strategy for sustainable, entertaining events, all of which fall in line with World Para Ice Hockey’s current strategic plan.

Michelle Laflamme, World Para Ice Hockey Manager, said:

"World Para Ice Hockey is committed to taking concrete actions in order to increase the number of women’s only events over the next couple of years. With the launch of the Women’s World Challenge we wish to create more opportunities for women’s national teams to showcase their talent on the world stage. We hope that a regular tournament in our competition calendar will allow members to develop their national programmes and will help teams in their preparation to our first Women’s World Championships in the future."
