Para dancers from all over the world will have the opportunity to compete virtually this year when World Para Dance Sport launches the first Freestyle & Showdance Online Competition.
Participants will have until March to submit a video between 1:30 and 2 minutes with their performance to World Para Dance Sport. The videos will be judged by a panel of international adjudicators and the results will be published on World Para Dance Sport website and social media channels.
The winners will be awarded one month’s free access to DSI TV, with the opportunity to access to a comprehensive catalogue of competitions, lectures, congress, and instructional videos from World Para Dance Sport partner DSI.
The online competition is open to athletes in three categories:
- Men’s and women’s singles freestyle classes L&F1 and L&F2;
- Men’s and women’s singles freestyle for new athletes using power wheelchair (not licensed or registered);
- Men’s and women’s singles freestyle for new athletes (not licensed or registered).
As an unofficial competition, results and rankings will not be recognised for any purposes under the sport’s rules and regulations.
Camila Rodrigues, World Para Dance Sport Manager, said:
"We want the Freestyle & Showdance Online Competition to be a great celebration of our sport. It will provide athletes the opportunity to stay active and motivated during the COVID-19 pandemic, while also offering an unique chance for new dancers who are still not classified or who want to try Para dance sport for the first time."
The deadline to submit the videos is 12 March for registered athletes and 19 March for new athletes and power wheelchair athletes.
