Western New York Energy, LLC (WNYE), has renewed its relationship with USA Luge, becoming an Official Supporter for the second consecutive year.
The genesis of this relationship is the annual I Love BBQ and Music Festival, held annually in Lake Placid during the Independence Day holiday period.
The festival, organized by USA Luge and other community partners, is a fundraiser for the local Shipman Youth Center. WNYE President and CEO Michael Sawyer has been a participant in the festival for many years, including the most recent festival in July.
Conversations with USA Luge Marketing Manager Dmitry Feld, the coordinator of the Shipman fundraiser, subsequently led to the two barbecue friends forging a new relationship in luge for the 2014-2015 season that now extends to 2015-2016.
"Western New York Energy is pleased to be continuing our relationship with USA Luge," said Sawyer. "We partner with hard-working farmers in our region, helping them produce clean, renewable energy. In a similar way, we are now involved with a sports federation that thinks creatively and aggressively to get itself to the finish line faster than others."
WNYE is just 12 years old, but their $90 million facility was the first operating ethanol plant in the northeastern United States.
Based in the town of Shelby, Orleans County, WNYE operates a state-of-the-art ethanol plant that produces over 55 million gallons of clean-burning fuel each year.
"We thank Western New York Energy for their continued faith in our organization," said USA Luge CEO and Executive Director Jim Leahy. "It’s support such as this that helps us achieve 13 World Cup medals as we did last season. When a supporter renews, it gives the athletes a boost of confidence that we are headed in the right direction."
Western New York Energy is among a group of significant donors locally and statewide. Others include the Uihlein Foundation, High Peaks Dental, CW-X, and Bernard and Karen Dayan of Lake Placid.
The relationship enables WNYE to use the marks and symbols of USA Luge in its’ promotional materials, as well as the "Official Supporter" designation in its marketing and communications strategies.
