After four intense days of visits to sport venues and meetings with the Organizing Committee, the authorities of Panam Sports are optimistic and pleased with the results of the first visit to the city of Cali, after the opening of Colombia’s borders.

The Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games are on the right track and Colombia, the Valley of Cauca, Cali and Panam Sports are a 100% committed to make these Games an unforgettable celebration.

CALI, COLOMBIA (November 26, 2020) — The conditions in the midst of COVID-19 had only allowed Panam Sports to supervise the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games Organizing Committee’s progress virtually. Videoconferences, presentations of photographs and virtual meetings were held for 10 months, but in-site technical visits were needed.

For this reason, once the Colombian authorities opened the country’s borders, President Neven Ilic organized the visit and traveled with 10 staff members to the worldwide capital of salsa — Cali, Colombia.

During four days busy and productive days, the team visited all of the sport venues for next September’s event. The visit included two full days of private meetings with the Organizing Committee in which updates on the areas of infrastructure, transportation, catering, volunteering, protocol and security, among others, were presented.

Panam Sports’ evaluation is completely positive, as the organization’s President stated after the venue tours were completed.

"Coming to Cali was the right decision; we had been working virtually but being here makes me feel confident and I can go back home pleased. They have tremendous potential, the sport venues are excellent, and we are sure that all sports that will be held in the Games will have venues that are very well adapted to our needs. The balance is very positive, Cali is working very well and I have absolutely no doubt that the Games will be an unforgettable sport celebration for all of the Americas’ youth," said President Neven Ilic.

The venues visited by Panam Sports included Jaime Aparicio, Alberto Galindo and San Fernando de Cali, as well as the venues at the sub-sites of Buga, Palmira and Jamundi.

"The Panam Sports Commission is leaving Cali pleasantly surprised by everything that its members have seen throughout this four-day visit, and that makes us feel very pleased and motivated to keep on working to face the great challenge that we have as a country. There is a lot of work to do and we would like to thank President Ilic and his team for their confidence and their continuous collaboration," said the Executive Director of the Cali Valle 2021 Junior Pan American Games Organizing Committee, Jose Luis Echeverry.

The Panam Sports General Assembly will be held virtually for the first time in history this December 15 and 16. During the Assembly, Cali Valle 2021 will make a formal presentation on the progress achieved in the organization of this great sport celebration to the delegates of the National Olympic Committee members of Panam Sports, the Pan American Confederations and special guests.

The next visit to Cali by the Panam Sports Coordination Commission has been scheduled for February 2021.
