Lindenwood University coach has led U.S. Junior and Age Group teams
INDIANAPOLIS - USA Synchro announced that Lori Eaton has been named the assistant coach of the U.S. Synchronized Swimming 2012 Olympic team, pending approval by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
"We are very excited to have Lori Eaton join the Olympic team coaching staff," said Sandra Mahoney, national team director. "She is a great complement to U.S. head coach Mayu Fujiki's coaching style and is committed to being a key part to our success in 2012 and beyond."
Eaton, 33, is a 10-year member of the U.S. National Team coaching ranks, previously serving as head coach of the U.S. Junior, 13-15 and 11-12 National Teams, and as a consultant to the U.S. National Team.
Known for her intricate choreography and musical interpretation, Eaton currently trains a handful of international elite athletes and Olympians as the head coach at Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Mo. She also led the Aruba National Team to the 2007 and 2009 World Championships.
"The U.S. is facing stiff competition in qualifying for the Olympic Games," Eaton said. "Mayu and I work very well together, and I feel we'll be able to make significant progress both toward improving our results in London and establishing our training program for Rio."
Eaton most recently coached her third-year Lindenwood team to a third-place finish at the U.S. Nationals and led sophomore Reem Abdalezem to an Olympic berth for her home country of Egypt. Eaton has placed more than 30 athletes in the U.S. National Team program since her coaching career began in 1997.
A former competitor for the U.S. Junior National Team, Eaton helped Ohio State to the collegiate national title in 1997 and won the Masters national title in 2000.
Eaton will be on hand for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials Nov. 11-14 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. The nine swimmers nominated for the team will be announced on Tuesday, Nov 15.
The U.S. team will compete in an Olympic Qualification Tournament in London April 18-22, 2012, for a chance to qualify a berth in the team and duet competitions for the 2012 Olympic Games.
