(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – The Road to the 2012 Olympic Games in London is heating up, and USA Boxing has added a high-powered weapon to its arsenal. Hal Adonis, USA Boxing President, announced today the hiring of former film and television executive Art Horan to the newly created post of Executive Vice President, Global Marketing.

In his new role, Horan will oversee content creation, broadcasting, marketing, promotion and fundraising for USA Boxing, the National Governing Body for boxing in the United States and a member organization of the United States Olympic Committee. Horan is leaving his post as Head of Business Development for All American Heavyweights, a private equity startup that recruits and develops world-class athletes into heavyweight boxers, to join USA Boxing’s staff.

"We are delighted to have someone with Art’s entrepreneurial background, passion and commitment for the sport of boxing join our team," Adonis said. "For the first time, USA Boxing has established a business plan and a new vision to bring boxing in the United States back to the golden age. We need the support of the private sector to help us compete on the world stage in a sport we once dominated, and Art is well positioned to do that for us."

The United States is one of only two nations in the world that does not provide government funding for the Olympic movement, which requires an increased emphasis on fundraising and outreach to new and creative revenue streams.

"The opportunity to work with USA Boxing’s Board of Directors and the organization’s dedicated volunteer membership with the support of the USOC and CEO, Scott Blackmun is a great honor and challenge," Horan said. "We have every intention of increasing the exposure of our male and female athletes competing in the 2012 Olympic Games while adding to our Olympic medal count. The ultimate goal is to build United States into an Olympic boxing powerhouse once again."

Prior to joining All American Heavyweights, Horan was involved with raising equity financing for motion pictures and held several high level positions in the television industry including Vice President, Business Affairs for Warner Bros. Television. He moved over to independent film as President of WMG where he was Executive Producer of the indie hit, The Usual Suspects.

Horan is a devoted support of the sport of boxing and will be based in Colorado Springs.

USA Boxing, as the national governing body for Olympic-style boxing, is the United States’ member organization of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) and a member of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).
