The International Cycling Union (UCI) organised an afternoon of sport for school children at its headquarters, the World Cycling Centre (WCC), as part of the International Day of Peace on September 21st.

International Day of Peace, called "Peace One Day" was established by a United Nations resolution, and as part of this organisers launched a ‘Sport for Truce’ campaign. In support of this campaign, the UCI, together with WCC in Aigle, Switzerland, invited local school children to discover different cycling disciplines.

Fifth and sixth year students from the Aigle region took part in an initiation to BMX and track cycling, and also received refreshments and a drink bottle.

"The UCI adheres to the inherent values of life saving peace promotion and fully supports the ‘Sport for Truce’ initiative," said the UCI President Mr Pat McQuaid. "We encourage all National Federations to proactively support the promotion of peaceful values to reduce global violence," he added.
