(ATR) Olympic bid consultant Terrence Burns lifts the lid on his new business after keeping mum about the changes since January.
In an email to Around the Rings, Burns announces he is now a managing director for Teneo Strategy, a New York-based firm that advises business, government, NGOs and now sports entities.
"I will be part of the firm’s growing Teneo Sports team and will be charged with developing a world-class sports advisory practice," writes Burns.
"We will serve clients across a range of sports related endeavors including bid campaign management and activation, corporate sponsorship consulting, sports property representation and public-private sports business partnerships," says the email.
"Teneo works as a trusted advisor to some of the world’s most respected companies, non-profit institutions and governments to design and execute strategies to achieve critical business objectives, protect and enhance reputation, navigate legal, political and regulatory challenges successfully and enhance value. I am excited to be part of the team," says Burns.
As reported this week in ATR, Burns has launched his Teneo practice with work for Madrid 2020. The Madrid bid says that Burns will be assisting with important presentations coming up at SportAccord Convention in May and the Association of National Olympic Committees in June.
Burns is also assisting the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles, or FILA, in its campaign for Olympic reinstatement along with TSE Consulting, a governance specialist and a few other key lobbyists, ATR is told.
While announcing his Teneo association, Burns shed no light on his departure from Helios, the Atlanta-based firm he founded in 2009 with partner Chris Welton. Both left the company in January.
While at Helios, Burns worked on Pyeongchang 2018, Doha 2016, Sochi 2014 and the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He also worked with Rome until the bid was abandoned last year, followed by a short stint with Baku, which failed to make the final stage of the 2020 contest last May.
Burns says he will remain based in Atlanta, his home for many years.
