A complete look into Thursday’s action:
Women’s 800-meter Freestyle – FINAL
1. Haley Anderson (Granite Bay, Calif./Trojan Swim Club), 8:34.93
2. Ashley Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y./TAC Titans), 8:35.16
3. Erica Sullivan (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada), 8:38.46
Anderson on returning to competition: "I’m really excited to be back competing and really lucky to have this opportunity. It’s nice to get back out there. It wasn’t the best swim, but it’ll get better.
"A lot of areas [I want to improve on]. It’s just getting those cobwebs off. I don’t know the last time I raced the 800 [free]. I think its been over a year since I’ve been able to race long course. So, I’m just sort of getting back in that race atmosphere."
Men’s 800m Freestyle – FINAL
1. Zane Grothe (Boulder City, Nev./Boulder City Henderson Swim Team), 7:59.05
2. Kieran Smith (Ridgefield, Conn./University of Florida), 7:59.27
3. Will Gallant (Canton, Conn./West Hartford Aquatic Team), 8:04.80
Grothe on competing in the TYR Pro Swim Series: "It’s good. First long course meet in over 10 months. I’ve been waiting but it feels good.
"I’ve been not really swimming [the 800 free] the way I want to for the last couple of years, kind of a fly and die. So, I told myself in this race, it doesn’t matter how slow the time is I need to do it the right way and be faster on the back half and definitely made that happen."
The long-course meter event will take place from January 14-17, 2021 and will air live on Olympic Channel Friday through Sunday at 7:00 p.m. ET. The even will be re-broadcast on NBCSN on Friday, Jan. 15 at 11:30 p.m. ET and Monday, Jan. 18 at 2:00 a.m. ET. Every session will also be livestreamed on www.usaswimming.org/streaming.
