SportAccord Postpones Convention Merger

(ATR) SportAccord will not merge with the SportAccord Convention until governance issues within the organization are resolved.

The SportAccord Council decided on Tuesday to postpone the merger of the two bodies after reviewing the feedback received from the International Federations at the extraordinary general assembly on Nov. 11.

"We appreciate the constructive input received from many Members who have underlined the important role of SportAccord for interaction between all International Federations to exchange best practices and learn from each other," said SportAccord Council chairman Gian Franco Kasper.

The unanimous decision of the SportAccord Council also ensures the council will revise a number of statutes to create better governance for the organization.

"We need to ensure this effective collaboration amongst the Federations continues, and the decision to keep two separate entities is the right solution for the time being," said Kasper.

The decision to postpone the merger means the 2016 edition of the SportAccord Convention will likely be its last as a separate entity.

"We are very much looking forward to the 2016 edition in Lausanne, which is promising to be a highly successful Convention, hand in hand with the SportAccord Members," said SportAccord Convention president Francesco Ricci Bitti.

The convention is set to take place from Apr. 17-22. SportAccord will hold its next general assembly on the final day of the convention.
