(ATR) The bid application process for SportAccord Convention host cities for 2019 and 2020 is now open.

"We are looking for cities who will help to deliver an outstanding Convention and continue to build on the successes of previous Conventions" SportAccord Convention Managing Director Nis Hatt said in a statement.

"Cities are encouraged to look at creative ways to provide the facilities and services needed to host the Convention and welcome the sports community coming from all corners of the globe."

Held in a different city almost every year, the convention brings together more than 1,000 organizationsand 92 international sports federations over six days. Last year, Lausanne was the first to stage the convention twice, having previously hosted it in 2004.

The Association of IOC Recognized International Sport Federation (ARISF), International Masters Games Association (IMGA), Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federation( AIOWF), and the Association of Summer Olympic International Federation (ASOIF) will all host their general assemblies during the conference.

The deadline for cities to express interest in bidding to host the 2019 or 2020 conventions is Mar.1.

Major Olympic cities such as Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney, Lima and others have yet to host the prestigious event and given the opportunity we may see these cities show interest in proposing to bid within the coming months.

"It goes without saying, hosting the SportAccord Convention provides outstanding opportunities for cities in a unique setting" states Hatt.

The next SportAccord Convention will take place in Aarhus, Denmark from Apr. 2-7.
