Longtime Softball President Retires

Don Porter, President of the International Softball Federation, has retired after 48 years with the federation. The decision came at the ISF Congress in Caratagena last week.

In a letter sent out to his colleagues, Porter said nearly five decades with the federation "was enough and it was time for Softball to have new leadership."

Porter served for 22 years as Secretary General, and the last 26 as President. He named Dale McMann as interim President of the federation. Porter will continue to serve on the ISF Board of Directors to assist ISF during the transition.

Until a new president is elected in 2014, Porter will continue in his role as co-President of the World Baseball Softball Confederation with Riccardo Fraccari.

New UCI Leadership Makes Swift Changes

A reduced salary, a new director general and a review of anti-doping procedures are among the changes introduced by the new cycling federation leadership.

The Management Committee of UCI, the International Cycling Union met October 29 to discuss changes from Brian Cookson, UCI President.

UCI agreed to audit all of its internal anti-doping measures as well as create an independent commission to look into past corruption and other wrongdoing at the federation UCI said in a statement. The committee also said it hope UCI will have an independent anti-doping operation by 2014.

Perhaps the most noteworthy decision taken was reduction in the president's salary of $122,000. Cookson will still earn $379,000 annually.

Martin Gibbs was named UCI Director General at the meeting.

"Today’s Management Committee meeting was an important moment for the UCI as we put in place a number of measures to restore trust in the UCI and ensure our great sport is able to move forward," Cookson said.

Handball President Reelected

Hassan Moustafa was reelected as president of the International Handball Federation.

Moustafa received 150 out of a possible 157 votes at the IHF Congress in Doha on October 26. Moustafa was first elected in 2000.
