The sixth Generations For Peace Samsung Advanced Training recently concluded in Amman, Jordan. The international training, held from 22-26 October, united 35 experienced Generations For Peace volunteers from eight countries, who came to Jordan to hone their skills in order to strengthen their future programmes, which benefit vulnerable children, youth, and adults by reducing violence and transforming conflict in their communities.
The volunteers came from Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Nigeria, Palestine, Rwanda, Uganda and Zimbabwe and have all recently completed a full programme cycle, making it the perfect time to share their experiences and plan their future programmes. The intensive training, delivered by Generations For Peace’s Pioneer Facilitators, saw volunteers enhance their knowledge and skills in conflict transformation theory, facilitation, programme design, monitoring and evaluation, and storytelling. The training also provided an extremely valuable opportunity for horizontal learning across different countries: sharing knowledge, success stories, challenges, lessons learned and best practices, to ensure the volunteers’ next cycle of programmes have even greater impact and sustainability.
Speaking at the Awards Dinner, HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, Founder and Chairman of Generations For Peace, said:
"Together, we can break stereotypes, transform conflicts, and support child and youth development in those communities most in need. Engaging youth, unlocking their potential and supporting them with experiential learning of leadership and responsible citizenship, is a path to sustainable peace at the grass roots, turning the words of the Amman Declaration and of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security into concrete positive changes in people’s lives."
"I would like to thank Samsung, our longest-serving partner, since 2008, for all their support. Together, we must continue to educate; we must continue to promote the unique power of sport, art, advocacy, dialogue and empowerment activities. These activities can help attract, mobilise and inspire communities; they can help build sustainable peace here in the Middle East, in Africa, Asia, Europe and wherever conflict casts its long shadow around the world."
Commenting on Samsung’s long-standing partnership with Generations For Peace, Changsup Lee, President of Samsung Electronics Levant, said:
"At Samsung we take pride in our commitment to social development through sport and education. In this region and beyond, the work of Generations For Peace is more important than ever in supporting youth leadership to reduce violence and transform conflict in communities. We are particularly impressed with the global recognition Generations For Peace has earned as the Top-Ranked Peace-building NGO in the World. Samsung is very proud to have been the partner of Generations For Peace on this incredible journey since 2008."
The training concluded with the Samsung Generations For Peace Awards. The Awards, presented by HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein and Changsup Lee, recognise outstanding accomplishments in four "Drivers of Change" categories: Innovation, Quality, Impact and Sustainability.
